Brian Sims

Brian Sims was appointed Editor of Security Management Today (SMT) in November 2000.
In his ten years in charge, Brian has built SMT into the leading opinion former and educational vehicle for the in-house security manager/director. In 2006, the journal ran a record 46 pages of Letters To The Editor across its 12 editions, while the editorial campaign entitled ‘Four Issues, One Voice’ has played its part in influencing the Home Office on issues pertaining to private sector regulation.
In 2006, Brian was honoured to receive the Skills for Security Special Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Security Business Sector. The latter recognised Brian’s commitment to Continuing Professional Development for security professionals.
Brian also plays an active role in the wider security community, and is an Honorary Fellow of The Security Institute. Brian sits on the Judging Panels for the Security Excellence Awards, the BSIA National Security Officer of the Year Awards, the Skills for Security National Training Awards and the IFSEC Awards. He is also chairman of The Security Institute’s Publications Committee, and chairs meetings of SMT’s own Editorial Advisory Board as well as the yearly SMT SELECT Forum at IFSEC.
Brian is regularly asked for comment on security issues, and was interviewed by both Talk Radio and BBC Radio 5 Live in the wake of the 7/7 suicide bombings. In 2004, he chaired the Homeland and Corporate Security Summit organised by the World Trade Group, and has collaborated in joint venture media partnerships with the British Standards Institution, EyeForRetail, the British Retail Consortium, the Joint Security Industry Council, ibe, ConflictPro and IQPC (among many others).

Fraud report: consumers hold retailers responsible for safety of online shopping

Almost a quarter (24%) of UK adults believe retailers are primarily responsible for making online shopping safer, according to a survey of 1,004 consumers conducted by CyberSource.
