CCTV End User Survey: CCTV system training

14 Sep 09

Over 30 per cent of CCTV end users have not been trained by their installer on how to get the best out of their CCTV system, according to our CCTV End User Survey.

And over 50 per cent of end users have not received training from the CCTV equipment manufacturer, respondents claimed.

As part of our CCTV End User Survey, conducted in conjunction with CCTV in Focus Limited, respondents were asked: “Have you or any of your staff been trained on how to get the best out of your CCTV system by an installer or manufacturer?”

Just over 60 percent said they had received training from their installer, with 32 per cent saying ‘no’ and around seven per cent saying ‘don’t know’.

Only 37 per cent said that they had been trained by their CCTV system manufacturer, with 53 per cent saying ‘no’ and 10 per cent ‘don’t know’.

Some respondent comments included:

  • “Training from the installer was poor, as they did not have a good enough grip themselves. Engineers on the ground called in their tech support who had not worked on the system themselves. They did arrange a trainer from the supplier to spend half a day but only after many complaints and them being unable to solve the problems.”
  • “Training was sufficient but could have been more comprehensive.”
  • “All staff use the equipment to the best level available taking into account age and condition of system.”
  • “Excellent support from Dedicated Micros.”
  • “The user’s manual is aimed at computer professionals, not the end user.”
  • “We have planned training with IndigoVision shortly.”
  • “Asset ID came to our premises and spent the day working with us for configuration options.”
