Ruth Henig reappointed SIA chairman for further term

Ruth Henig said: “I am very pleased to have been reappointed. I look forward to working with the different sectors of the security industry, with other partners and with ministers during the next three years to ensure that regulation continues to deliver the benefits that we all want to see.”

Home Office Minister Alan Campbell said: “I am pleased to re-appoint Baroness Henig as the Chair of the Security Industry Authority. With extensive experience within the police and security sector, Baroness Henig has played a key role in driving the SIA’s focus on greater public protection and better regulation. I look forward to continuing to work with her.

“Key priorities for the year ahead include the continued drive to build on improvements in performance in the authority’s core work of processing licences for the private security industry, while effectively managing resources to ensure value for money.”

Dr Ruth Henig, Baroness Henig CBE, speaks on policing issues in the House of Lords and is a member of the House of Lords European Scrutiny sub committee, which covers Home Affairs and Justice.

She has extensive experience within the police and security sector; is President of the Association of Police Authorities, and was formerly chairman of Lancashire Police Authority and a member of the National Criminal Justice Board

In 2000 Baroness Henig was awarded a CBE for her services to policing, and in 2002 was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for Lancashire. In June 2004 she was made a life peer as Baroness Henig of Lancaster.

Her appointment at the SIA commenced on 15 January 2007 for a three year period – her reappointment runs for a further three years to January 2013.
