Synectics commits to ONVIF and PSIA open standards groups

11 Nov 09

A long-term advocate of open protocols and universal standards in IP surveillance camera networks, Synectics Security Networks has committed to joining both the PSIA and ONVIF open standard groups.

ONVIF is the worldwide industry forum for the development of a global open standard for the interface of network video products. Founded in 2008 by Axis Communications, Bosch Security Systems and Sony Corporation, ONVIF is committed to the adoption of network video in the security market.

The forum already has more than 55 members, representing several of the world’s largest manufacturers of network video products.

The PSIA was conceived in February last year, with the objective of promoting the interoperability of IP-enabled security devices, and the creation and promotion of broad industry adoption of specifications that provide interchangeability and ease of use of physical security products to the benefit of the end user.

What Synectics has to say

“Both groups are committed to the development of global open standards for the interface of network video products across the security industry,” explained David Aindow, Synectics’ business development director. “We see our commitment to these standards as very important, and we fully support the goal of common system protocols across the industry. Ultimately, this will provide customers with freedom of choice when specifying security networks."

Aindow continued: "The key benefit of open system protocols for end users is that they allow any product from the co-operating manufacturers to interface with each other. For Synectics customers around the world, this means direct connectivity and one-touch set-up of participating third party manufacturers’ IP devices into the Synergy Command and Control system. Any new device can simply be connected, and Synergy will then perform a search and automatic integration procedure.”

What ONVIF and the PSIA have to say

Ken Iwasaki of the ONVIF Steering Committee enthused: “We are happy to welcome Synectics into ONVIF. It's great to see the growing interest from solutions providers from all parts of the world.”

David Bunzel, the executive director of the PSIA, commented: “We are pleased to have Synectics join our alliance. They have an established position as a technology leader in the security industry, and joining the PSIA shows the increasing interest in our organisation and its initiatives in international markets.”

Synectics is one of the first manufacturers to fully implement the PSIA media device into its products. Now standard in the company’s award-winning SynergyPro security management suite, the system’s advanced capabilities were successfully demonstrated at the recent ASIS exhibition.

During the event, IP cameras and video servers from a wide variety of third party manufacturers were integrated instantly, and configured into the network with ‘one-touch’ set-up.
