Casino protected by Milestone Systems
10 Mar 10
Denmark's Casino Copenhagen has taken steps to monitor fraud with a CCTV solution by Milestone Systems.
Installed by Info-Connect, the XProtect Corporate IP system links hundreds of cameras within the casino.
The solution is also extended to the Hotel Radisson BLU Scandinavia, which is adjacent to the casino and sees many of the same customers.
Each server within the solution has a storage capacity of 10 TB, a critical factor for the video archives, according to Milestone Systems, as recordings from gambling tables must be saved for 31 days by law, while images from the cash transactions must be kept for 62 days.
Spotting the professionals
Jesper Frederiksen, surveillance manager at Casino Copenhagen, said: “There are professionals out there who have made a career out of cheating both their co-players and the dealers.
“Our people are trained to spot these cheaters, and when that occurs we are talking about very large amounts of money. That’s why it really pays for us to invest in such comprehensive technological solutions - and that also benefits our customers in relation to security and service.”
He added: “Like all other casinos we must conform to strict laws and regulations for security and internal procedures. We also want to provide the best possible service to our many customers.”
The installation records with sound - allowing disputes on the roulette tables to be settled swiftly. For example, if a customer asks to put his money on the colour red and there is a disagreement, operators can scroll back to determine precisely what did occur.
As part of the solution, customers also have their photos taken at reception when they check in via guest registration software integrated by Info-Connect. The image is then shown in the Milestone Smart Client together with extra information on the customer along with the customer’s ticket information in Milestone’s XProtect Transact software.
In addition, all visitors are given access chip with RFID, so the system shows the guest's photo on the surveillance screen when they go through the entrance to the casino, Milestone said. This is geared towards avoiding photo fraud, by allowing security personnel to compare the guest's photo on the screen with the existing customer information.
