Post-flood town helped by Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies
11 Mar 10
Locals stuck in post-flood Workington, in Cumbria last year were helped by the swift building of a purpose-built Tescos.
The store, which was trading just two weeks after building work began, was fitted with Martin Roberts steel door sets, which were supplied by Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies and installed by Yorkon.
With both vehicle and pedestrian bridges over the river Derwent swept away during the flooding in November last year, the town was effectively cut in two. Working with Portakabin subsidiary, Yorkon, Ingersoll supplied two single and one double steel door sets for a new 13,300 sq ft purpose-built interim Tesco supermarket.
A spokesman from Ingersoll said: “The doors set order was processed in one day and a team of three multi-skilled workers were assigned the task of manufacturing and completing the order as quickly as possible. As a result the complete door sets were supplied on site within four days, instead of the usual 3-4 weeks fast track service.”
The temporary supermarket is operating in addition to Tesco's main store in Workington which remains open but out of reach to the thousands of residents cut off on the north side of the River Derwent.
