Dunville aims to create jobs by relaunching Lockhart Security

Roy Dunville, together with fellow shareholders, sold Sunderland-based Lockhart Security Services back in 2004 to a large national company.

Launched in 1987, Lockhart Security grew to be a national success, winning industry awards and opening offices across the UK in cities including Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester and Leicester, employing a total of more than 1000 workers.

Lockhart handled security for major clients that included Nissan, Komatsu UK, Caterpillar UK and NSK Bearings, but after a lifetime in professional security, Dunville decided to hang up the keys to his business, taking early retirement in Florida.

Now Roy, 57, and his wife Judith have returned to their roots and family with plans to do it all again.

Dunville has already secured the rights to the old business name and secured a lease on the company’s former offices in Lockhart House on Hudson Road in Sunderland.

He has now unveiled ambitious expansion plans to grow quickly in the North East before branching out into other areas of the country.

Dunville said: “Lockhart built up a recognised name in the security industry based on our high standards of professionalism. All our staff were directly employed by the company with no agency workers.

“They were all fully vetted, expertly trained and always wore the official Lockhart uniform. The new venture will operate to the same high standards.

“I enjoyed my time in the sun but began to feel that I really needed to do something and the security industry is the only business I know after spending 35 years in it!

“The success of Lockhart’s was built on a philosophy of quality of service, professionalism and commitment to the client, plus our motto was ‘The Company That Can’, which we have once again adopted.

“At its height Lockhart Security employed over 1000 people across the UK and was one of the biggest independent names in the sector. There is no reason why we can’t do it all again.”
