Wilson James attains NSI Guarding Gold Approval

28 Jan 10

Multi-award winning security solutions provider Wilson James has just been awarded Guarding Gold status by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI).

Founded in 1991, Wilson James has established itself as one of the leading providers of managed security and customer services in the UK. A strong driver for positive change within the guarding sector, it’s the only major company operating a 48-hour week across its entire customer portfolio.

This is one of the many reasons why Wilson James has won multiple industry awards (including four consecutive Best Guarding Company accolades at the Security Excellence Awards), accreditations and a solid reputation for quality and innovation.

On the back of this latest news, Wilson James now joins the ranks of many of the UK’s leading security providers who are also approved to NSI Guarding Gold level.

What the Contract Quality Marque entails

Under the Contract Quality Marque inspection scheme, companies are required to provide evidence of their ability to:

• meet the highest business performance standards

• meet all relevant British and European Standards for technical performance

• security screen all relevant staff

• provide a high level of staff training and supervision to industry Best Practice standards

• meet the industry-specific ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Standard

• demonstrate a long-term track record of performance and evidence of reliability and stability

Companies also need to be comprehensively insured to protect their customers, and are inspected every six months by professional auditors to make sure that standards are maintained at all times. Those inspections include site visits at random intervals to ensure consistency of service.

Service delivery independently tested

“The driving force behind Wilson James becoming an NSI Guarding Gold-approved company is that it allows the quality of our service delivery at specific customer sites to be independently tested under the newly launched NSI Contract Quality Marque scheme,” explained Wilson James’ managing director (and current BSIA chairman) Stuart Lowden.

Wilson James is a keen supporter of the new NSI Contract Quality Marque, launched last November at a special briefing held at The RAF Club on London’s Piccadilly. In essence, the Contract Quality Marque aims to recognise individual contracts which excel in the level of quality and service they provide to customers and members of a given guarding company’s staff alike.

Commenting on the news, Andrew White – chief executive at the NSI- stated: “I’m delighted that Wilson James has achieved NSI Guarding Gold approval. This can only strengthen the organisation’s resolve to deliver even higher standards in the security sector.”

White is pleased Wilson James has chosen NSI approval. “It will provide assurances to their customers that they provide a premier service.”

Of the Top 20 UK guarding companies listed at www.infologue.com, Wilson James is the 12th to receive NSI approval. Edited by Bobby Logue, the companies listed in the Top 20 collectively account for 70% of the guarding market by turnover.

Extremely stringent assessment procedures

The Contract Quality Marque assessment procedure is, as you would expect, extremely stringent, focusing not only on the robustness of a given suppliers’ processes, procedures and management capability but also on security officers’ working conditions, pay and benefits.

Frequently, it’s these so-called ‘softer issues’ which contribute greatly to staff motivation and increased job satisfaction, and ultimately result in significantly better on-site performance. The latter is the very bedrock of contract quality.

SMT Online has been told that, next month, the NSI is commencing with the independent assessment of a number of pilot customer sites.
