New Level 3 Security Operations programme introduced for security staff
30 Jan 10
Skills for Security has announced the launch of a new Level 3 Security Operations programme, developed in conjunction with ARC Training International.
This course has been created for operational personnel who have an understanding of security but want to extend their knowledge for either personal development or career development purposes.
The programme covers Health & Safety, physical security, information security, personnel and the law.
Learners who are seeking a qualification can use the programme to achieve a Level 3 Award in Security Operations through either City & Guilds or the National Open College Network (NOCN) via an approved centre.
Three learning options available
There are three learning options available. In the first, trainers can purchase a CD-Rom containing all of the materials required to teach the programme in the classroom.
Alternatively, there’s a student distance learning workbook that allows them to complete the course through reading and various academic exercises, allowing students to learn at their own pace.
The final option sees the two methods being combined, with some modules taught in the classroom while others are completed by studying the textbook.
Improvement of security knowledge
Speaking about the move, David Greer – Skills for Security’s chief executive – commented: “Research within the security sector identified demand for a Level 3 qualification that will help people improve their security knowledge. We worked with employers to provide them with a programme that is fit for purpose, and we’re extremely pleased with the programme that has been developed thanks to the assistance of ARC Training International.”
Greer feels the new course of study “is very comprehensive”, while the different learning options are “of great benefit to the industry”.
