IFSEC Conference programme unveiled by UBM Live
31 Jan 09
UBM Live – organiser of IFSEC 2009 – has announced details of a high-level, three-day conference programme covering the most cutting-edge issues affecting the security industry.
Following its successful launch in 2008, the IFSEC Conference returns this year under the banner Maximising Protection in Uncertain Times. Thanks to top quality content and industry-leading speakers, delegates will be able to address all of their key security challenges.
The IFSEC Conference runs alongside the IFSEC Exhibition when it takes place in Halls 3a, 4 and 5 at the NEC, Birmingham from 11–14 May. The internationally renowned and best security exhibition provides installers, manufacturers, distributors, IT integrators, security managers and consultants with a platform to keep up-to-date with the now ever-changing developments across the global security industry.
Day One: Global, National and Local Protection
Each day of the conference will be dedicated to a specific area of security, and will be chaired by an industry leading figure. Day 1’s focus is on Global, National and Local Protection, and will focus on issues such as maintaining business resilience and continuity, the latest security intelligence and security strategies and the planning procedures involved with protecting our Critical National Infrastructure. This day will be chaired by David Kidd, regional security manager at the US Embassy.
Day 2: Corporate Security Management
Day 2 of the conference programme is perfect for the readers of SMT Online as it concentrates on Corporate Security Management, and will look at issues including the threats posed by e-crime and online fraud, security managers overcoming increasing financial restrictions to maintain a secure environment and the dynamics of employee security. This day will be overseen by Bill Wylie, current chairman of The Security Institute and former head of security at the Bank of England.
Day 3: Technological Innovations in Practice
Day 3 will explore Technological Innovations in Practice and concentrate on various issues including the advantages to be gained from the interoperability of security systems, the pitfalls and challenges associated with IP implementation and the future of security systems. Alex Carmichael – technical and membership services director at the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) – will be chairing the final day.
Line-up full of experts
In total, 27 expert speakers will present sessions over the three days. Speakers confirmed include:
• Stephen Cooper (head of security, Olympic Delivery Authority)
• DCI Chris Phillips (head of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office)
• Gillies Crichton (head of HSE Compliance, Glasgow International Airport)
• Steve Fowler (chief executive, The Institute of Risk Management)
• Dean Jenkins (security manager, Westfield’s Shopping Centres)
• Ian Johnson (chairman of the Security Consultancies Section, BSIA)
• John Convey (technology alliance manager, Cisco Physical Security)

Delegates will be invited to use the event’s ‘pick and mix’ agenda to ensure they are able to attend the sessions of greatest interest.
Delegates to benefit from imparted knowledge
Speaking to SMT Online about the IFSEC Conference programme, James Blue – director of the Fire and Security Portfolio at UBM Live – commented: “Following our experiences last year and on the back of extensive research, we’ve been able to deliver a more comprehensive conference schedule for 2009. Having secured a number of internationally-renowned industry names, we’re in no doubt that delegates will be benefiting from the finest expertise the security industry has to offer.”
Blue continued: “The IFSEC Conference will deal with the issues of most importance and relevance to security professionals, engaging them in debate about important matters facing the profession over the coming years. It’s another excellent reason as to why security and facilities professionals must visit IFSEC in May.”
