Delhi will make full use of IFSEC India 2009: Delhi Chief Minister

I4S India editor Verghese V Joseph spoke exclusively to the Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms. Sheila Dikshit, who said that innovations in the security industry were the need of the hour and IFSEC India event pointed to the right direction.

The Delhi Chief Minister, Ms. Sheila Dikshit, assured the organisers that Delhi would make full use of IFSEC India 2009 exhibition. She said she would request the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, the Fire Department and many resident welfare associations connected with the government, which are part of the government system, in Delhi to visit IFSEC India 2009 to understand the technologies being displayed at the event and make full use of them.

The Chief Minister added, "We need the innovations that are being brought out constantly to make us feel secure. In India and Delhi specifically, we need this more than ever before because the city will be conducting for the first time in India's Independent history – The Commonwealth Games in October 2010 – and security is a great concern for all of us because we would like the Games to be peaceful."

She referred to her last year's IFSEC India visit and mentioned that she went back much wiser. She informed that she has instructed the Fire Department to adopt many of the systems displayed at IFSEC India 2009. She also added, "Delhi has large infrastructures that need security. Also, about a million people visit Delhi everyday and it is imperative that we need to stay focused on security to make them feel secure."

The three-day event, organised by UBM India Pvt. Ltd, the international security fair, has over 220 world's leading security companies are participating this year, including companies like G4S, Canon, Infinova, Sanyo, Honeywell, Sony, Hitachi, IOmniscient IQ, Panasonic, 3M and many more.

The highlight of the event is the inaugural Internal Security India 2009 taking place tomorrow. The Internal Security India 2009 will also host a high-level conference titled Counter Terror India 2009, which will draw together senior level security officials and experts from the public sector on both Central and State level as well as private sector organisations spanning all critical national infrastructure.
