Video Tec acquires rival to enter schools market
08 Oct 08
CCTV installer Video Tec Ltd has acquired rival Security Management Plus (SMP), a specialist in schools and college installation.
The acquisition of the Midlands-based business, for an undisclosed sum, expands Video Tec’s geographic scope and gives it entry into a flourishing new market.
SMP’s customer base for CCTV systems includes hundreds of high schools throughout the UK.
Funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland, the deal increases Video Tec’s turnover to more than 5m and the company’s directors are confident of increasing this.
Its current client base includes retailers, commercial and industrial sites and manufacturing plants.
Two years ago it acquired Warrington-based Zoom TV - doubling the size of both companies - and relocated offices to Standish, Lancashire.
SMP was set up 14 years ago and has become a leading security provider for schools and other educational establishments.
Bob Lister, MD of Video Tec said; “Our strategy has been to grow the business by acquiring well established companies operating in a similar market to ourselves. SMP fits this criteria and the acquisition gives us the scope to expand into a new sector of the market.”
