Prime time security: help make a documentary

08 Oct 08

A film company producing a prime time documentary about home security for Channel 4 is looking to security professionals to help in making its programme – and to highlight themselves and their industry on national TV.

Production company Century Films is hoping to get in touch with those in the industry who supply and install systems to residential clients.

Through them, says Ally Roberts of Century, “we hope to get in touch with ordinary homeowners for whom domestic security is a very high priority. This is not a documentary about the security of celebrities, VIPs or the super-rich; we want to find ordinary British homeowners whose homes feature a high level of security. We are interested in talking to homeowners who have installed or are about to install multi-layered security. These homes may feature CCTV, a complex alarm or door-entry system, security lighting, perimeter security and other robust security systems such as trained guard dogs”.

Security attitudes
“If any info4security readers have clients who might be interested in speaking with myself about the system they have or are having installed, and their attitude to home security in Britain today, I would love to hear from you to discuss an appropriate way to get in touch,” Roberts says.

“It would simply mean a polite, professional, confidential conversation on the phone with myself, in the first instance – there’s no further commitment at this stage.

“Eventually we are going to feature three different homeowners with different types of advanced security, making the general public aware of the options available to them.

“We are not seeking to reveal where they live or compromise their security in any way.”

Positive and informative
Roberts also stressed that the documentary – which is due for broadcast in February next year – is in no way an “investigative or journalistic piece of filmmaking”.

“It’s an observational character-led documentary giving the opportunity for British homeowners and those that work in the security installation sector to share their views on why more and more of us are investing in advanced technology to protect our property, and why it is becoming a higher priority for more and more ordinary Britons. It’s a positive, informative look at people for whom a high tech and multi-faceted security system is a high priority in this day and age.”

The 30-minute programme is planned to be broadcast in a slot regularly attracting over one million viewers, she said.

Security professionals interested in the documentary should contact Ally Roberts on 020 7378 6106, or email ally.roberts@centuryfilmsltd.com.
