BSIA Briefing: British Standard BS 8418
18 Feb 08
The 2008 IIPSEC Exhibition and conference programme – which ran at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry between 29-31 January – saw the British Security Industry Association present a break-out session concentrating on IP as an enabling technology in the application of BS 8418 (the British Standard for detector-activated, remotely-monitored CCTV which ensures a high standard of installation and monitoring).
BSIA CCTV Section chairman Pauline Norstrom led the session, which included Case Studies relating to BS 8418 and its application, as well as the latest industry statistics.
The presentation also considered the impact of IP technology on the application of the British Standard and in providing bottom line security, at the same time examining the financial benefits of BS 8418 compliance.
Pauline’s presentation was underpinned by current figures relating to BS 8418’s ability to dramatically reduce false activations.
The true potential of IP technology
IIPSEC provided an opportunity for visitors to gain a better understanding of the true potential for IP technology by way of the exhibition and education and technology-focused seminars.
The BSIA’s CCTV Section works to develop standards across the industry, and has also produced a number of guides to aid end users in explaining the benefits of BS 8418 systems. For details visit: www.bsia.co.uk/cctv
