Security Institute appoints new vice-chair

20 Apr 07

The Security Institute has appointed David Gill of Linx International as its new vice-chairman. At its recent council meeting, Bill Wyllie was also re-elected as chairman.

Wyllie was formerly the Chief Security Adviser and Business Continuity Coordinator at the Bank of England and now operates in a private consultancy role, working internationally and with a special interest in the Middle East.

Gill, a former police officer, is the founder of Linx International Ltd, a specialist security and risk management consultancy. His primary areas of expertise include crisis management, security planning and major investigations.

Commenting on his election, Wyllie urged all members to participate in the process of enhancing the professionalism and profile of the business of security.

He added that in the next year the Security Institute would “consolidate our existing successes, but will also move forward with our drive for chartered status, our involvement with associated professional associations, and our work with the SIA and Skills for Security - especially the new Register of Security Professionals.”

Gill said that he was delighted at the opportunity, and reiterated the organisation’s desire to obtain chartered status.

“Building on the Institute's solid foundation, I hope to help raise the profile of the Institute which is not just about the higher echelons of the security profession; I am particularly keen to help develop a mentoring program for the less experienced wanting to develop their career in security and also to encourage international interest, whilst maintaining our stringent validation process,” he said.
