Security installer (small)
03 Oct 07
The Best Security Installer (small) Award is presented to the individual or company that has shown the highest standards of workmanship and customer support during the year. It is open to individuals, or companies employing anything up to 20 people. And the winner is... Gardner Security
Gardner Security says it offers a “value added service” to clients. Comprising an MD, operations manager, surveyor, office administrator, four engineers and two apprentices, the Chichester company’s ethos is to offer impartial advice without obligation. It works in partnership with clients, providing fit-for purpose solutions. International publisher of technical literature John Wiley has retained Gardner for a number of years, but the partnership was “developed significantly” when the company installed three access control systems, gate automation, an alarm system and a CCTV system.
Gardner also wrote the DPA documentation for it. Ex gratia assistance included advice on perimeter protection, Health and Safety and help setting up the guarding function. In a second project the company upgraded the CCTV system for sites and ferries operated by Gosport Ferries between Portsmouth and Gosport. Solutions included microwave technology to overcome environmental conditions, light-sensitive cameras, static cameras with dampers to offset vibration and cables shielded and run to prevent electrical spikes on ignition. The project was finished in time and on budget, earning the praises of the client in relation to Gardner’s approach to service.
Runner-up
“The company’s approach to ex gratia assistance must greatly impress its clients. It shows an understanding of the overall objectives of a project.” |

Secure Engineering
The company provided CCTV coverage across an expansive homes, business and leisure development area known as ‘The Bridge’ at Dartford, which also includes extensive transport links. Two dedicated Control Rooms were created, one at the site management centre and another several miles away at a bus company offices, using video and data over IP. In each of the Fastrack bus shelters three cameras were installed plus IP Help Point intercoms connected to the Control Room. A total of 14 ANPR cameras monitor vehicle movement and ensure a limit is maintained on
the number of cars entering the area. The company also carried out a major upgrade of Kent County Council’s (KCC) traffic monitoring, including two rear-projected, 80-inch Barco monitors each viewing up to 12 cameras. Part of the KCC project was an upgrade and migration of cameras onto more cost effective Broadband links with upgrades to fully rotational Pelco Esprit models. Secure Engineering says its commitment is to provide quality services and solutions for customers, part of which is a free two year warranty on all parts and any faults due to workmanship.
