Door supervisor 'top-up' training: SIA consultation deadline
12 Mar 10
The Security Industry Authority has issued a reminder to those operating in the door supervision industry that the current Home Office consultation proposing additional training for UK door supervisors will close in two weeks.
In tandem with the Home Office, the Regulator has been consulting on plans to introduce additional training for UK door supervisors.
The aim of the new proposals, many of which were suggested by the industry, is to protect the public by raising standards of training across the sector. The additional training proposed includes physical intervention, First Aid, special considerations when dealing with young people and awareness of the threat posed from terrorism.
Door supervisors deal directly with members of the public, often working in difficult situations where conflict can arise. On that basis, it’s vital that they’re properly equipped to carry out their role and meet the challenges they face to better protect the public.
The SIA has already included the additional training elements as part of the new qualifications being introduced from June of this year.
Deadline for responses: Tuesday 23 March
The public consultation has proposed making the additional skills a requirement for existing door supervisors in the form of ‘top-up’ training that must be taken before licence renewal procedures are set in motion.
This would also apply to those who have an existing qualification and who wish to apply for a licence for the first time.
The deadline for responses is Tuesday 23 March
Responses may be sent by post to: The Home Office, Door Supervisors Training Consultation, Security Industry Authority Sponsor Team, 1st Floor, Peel Building, 2 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DF
Alternatively, send an e-mail: doorsupervisorstraining@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk
For any enquiries about the content or scope of the consultation telephone: 020 7035 6834
